Rochester University – Consumer Information Disclosures – 2020-2021

The Higher Education Act of 1965 and the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (HEOA) requires that postsecondary institutions participating in federal student aid programs make certain disclosures to students. The following information is disclosed to you as a student at Rochester University in compliance with federal law. FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT (FERPA)

The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords students certain rights with respect to their educational records. They include the right to 1) inspect and review these records; 2) request an amendment to the records; 3) consent to or restrict disclosures of personally identifiable information in the records; and 4) file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning the University’s alleged failure to comply with FERPA. Copies of the complete policies and procedures for reviewing educational records and requesting an amendment of the records may be obtained from the Registrar’s Office at 800 W Avon Rd, Rochester Hills, MI 48307. RU’s FERPA Policy Statement is available in the undergraduate course catalog.

INSTITUTIONAL DRUG AND ALCOHOL POLICY

The Rochester University Policy on Alcohol and Other Drugs is published annually in the Student Handbook. The College’s student conduct regulations prohibit the unlawful possession, use, or distribution of alcohol and other drugs by students and student organizations. Sanctions are detailed for students who violate this policy and may be found through the Student Handbook.

CAMPUS SAFETY DATA AND FIRE LOG

The Clery Act requires institutions of higher learning post crime statistics as well as policies and procedures on crime reporting on an annual basis. The Annual Security & Fire Safety Report contains the crime statistics, as well as alcohol, drug, and weapon-related offenses for the past three years. Campus policies regarding reporting crimes, safety information, sexual violence prevention, and emergency contact information are also included. The Annual Security & Fire Safety Report also contains information about fire safety in student housing and information on the fire reporting log. The most recent report and an archive of reports from previous years can be found on the Campus Safety webpage.  Note: The 2020 Annual Security & Fire Safety Report will be published at the end of December 2020. The deadline was extended due to COVID-19. Information regarding campus safety at RU can also be found in the Student Handbook.

CAMPUS SAFETY POLICIES AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

The College has a comprehensive emergency notification system including an emergency text message notification system, telephone announcement system, website, and student portal posting, and campus-wide email system.
